EGNER Genealogical Resources for the UK The Egners appear to have come to the UK from Germany, mainly in the 19th Century. Curiously, many of them set up as butchers - there is evidence of this in London, Bristol, Nottingham & Derby, Tyneside, Belfast and Edinburgh. It is difficult to establish a connection between these groups of Egner, without going back several generations. In the course of my research I have collected entries in the Births, Marriages and Deaths registers at the GRO and one or two other lists. To access these lists, click here. |

Initially I researched my Egner ancestry and through a series of flukes traced back to the 15/16th centuries in Germany. I then began researching other branches of my wife's and my own family. This included my ancestor deported to Van Dieman's Land for stealing 6 geese, a gold digger in Australia, and in my wife's family the first Mayor of Bilston.
