My Highlights
Well there's too many to recall, all of them special in their own way. So here are a few of them...
- Gaining a place at Oxford University from a secondary modern recently turned comprehensive school. I was the first to go to Oxbridge from the school.
- Writing and performing my own songs including the concept album Troubadour... fortunately the songs got better! I also performed a classical composition for piano in a school concert, as well as a orchestrating a piece for the school orchestra.
- Wicketkeeping for the school staff team.
- Taking part in a multi-media presentation at the Baptist Assembly in 1977, and subsequently appearing on national TV with an excerpt.
- Captaining the college table tennis team to promotion.
- The various bands I performed with
- Getting a book published!
- Masterminding the Hertfordshire Young Consumers of the Year quiz competition while working for Trading Standards.
- Gaining a distinction in my DipTh and then in my MTh - making up for the poor BA result.
- Working on a range of print and web-based publications.
- Running a 10k in under an hour - it's a shame my calf muscle can't hold up for more running
- My travels abroad - India and Philippines are memorable for very different reasons than our family holiday in Florida
My Family
Nowadays most of my highlights are linked to my family. Needless to say, my wedding was a highlight. I met Sue at Oxford - she went on to train as a teacher of physics and games. Sue played cricket for Oxford University and hockey for Broxbourne. She is also talented musically. She is a great wife and mum.
Needless to say, the birth of our three children were also highlights. And now my highlights are the achievements of the children. Ian is working in IT multimedia, and is a talented photographer and juggler - check our his website for more info. We are also immensely proud of our daughters who are very involved in performing arts - music (brass and piano) and dance in particular. They have both performed at the Birmingham Symphony Hall. The girls and I have also appeared in community pantomimes put on by the church - not all in the same year, but that may change as we prepare for Puss in Boots this autumn.
