Infinitum developed from acoustic duo Janet Cooper and Malcolm, adding Chris Hopper on lead guitar, Mark Atherton on bass and Pippa on vocals. We even ended up with a technical crew - Adrian Godwin and... who was the guy who introduced us to U2's music? The group gigged around Oxford and various church halls from Beckenham to Didcot, Upminster to Bristol. A cut down version of the band played at the Cafe Ole, run by Sally Magnusson no less (before she became a TV presenter). Malcolm's early songs made up most of their material, including a couple of instrumentals, as well as the epic 'Susie' and classics such as 'Through the Darkest Hours'. The songs were catchy, albeit dominated by 3/4 tempo (something to do with the way Malcolm played guitar in those days); the musicianship was not as technically good as other musicians they gigged with, but nevertheless they came across well. |
