Mission: Possible

Mission: Possible - More Reviews

Forward (1990): Neil Casey

The word 'evangelism' strikes terror in the heart of many Christians. Many shy away because they are not 'gifted in that area' or have had bad experiences. It is so refreshing and encouraging to read a book which takes into account all these feelings and still shows in a practical way that mission is possible.

This is an easy-to-read handbook with work sheets and practical advice on organising all sorts of evangelistic events. It is also more than that. It takes a comprehensive approach to evangelism, with the actual evangelistic event as one part of a process starting with prayer and personal witness, supplemented by researching the needs of the area and wise planning, through publicity and presentation to follow-up. Each chapter finishes with a summary and a worksheet to help apply the principles outlined.

It takes the terror out of evangelism and gives ordinary Christians an opportunity to see what we are commissioned to fulfil, and how we can go about it. Jesus has asked us to make disciples. If you do not know how, then get this book. Mission possible? You bet!

21st Century Christian (1990): David Stone

If you want to know how to help your church get to grips with evangelism in your area, then read this book and put what it says into practice.

Malcolm Egner starts where mission should start if it is to be effective and achieve results which last - with the priority of prayer and the indispensability of personal witness. He then goes on to tackle preparation for evangelism. We are shown a wide range of imaginative methods, helped to identify and target the people we're trying to reach, encouraged to involve the whole church and urged to invest in serious planning.

The comprehensive section on practicalities begins with the vital work of preparing for follow-up and goes on to deal with organising events, counselling and publicity. Appendices on inter-church evangelism, weenies, resources, useful addresses and further reading complete a helpful and stimulating book
