UNSCHOOLED RUFFIANS
Rock band 1981-82 Song Lyrics |
Unschooled Ruffians - the name was taken from a Larry Norman song 'The Outlaw' - were together for a year in Bedfordshire. Malcolm played bass, and wrote much of the material (now with a more rocky feel than for Infinitum). Lorraine Thorne was on lead vocals (she went on to sing with Extrax), Lesley Evans on keyboard, Jonathan Clark on percussion. Paul Price joined us half-way through the year on lead guitar and vocals, and Steve Ayres on drums. Ruffians gigged round youth clubs and church halls mainly in the villages to the north of Luton. Many of the gigs were for events such as: The Mars Bar, The Galaxy, Restaurant at the End of the Universe - get the drift for the era! Songs included Malcolm's 'Suburbia', 'You've changed me', and the ballad 'Open up your eyes' later recorded by Rachel Morris. Also Larry Norman's 'Why don't you look into Jesus', 'Why should the devil have all the good music', 'Rock that doesn't roll' and 'I wish we'd all been ready'. Also a rocked up version of Keith Green's 'Altar Call', and a rendition of The Beatle's 'Help'. Now, those were the days! Malcolm and Paul went on to form the short-lived 'Crisis Point' - now what's in a name??? |
